Imminent Imprisonment

Historical Statements on Inmates

“Why should we give these lowlifes a comfortable existence?” he previously wondered. “They deserve to be fucked, period. That's my opinion.”

At another time, Bolsonaro stated: “If you don’t want to end up behind bars, all you have to do is to avoid rape, kidnap or theft.”

Jail Facility Debate

But the prospect of Bolsonaro himself landing in the Papuda top-security prison in Brasília has appalled allies, a group of four this week visited the facility in an obvious bid to discourage the judiciary from banishing him there.

Izalci Lucas, a senator from Bolsonaro’s Liberal party who was part of that quartet, claimed he anticipated the elderly figure to be jailed in the next 10 days and was concerned his destination could be Papuda.

The senator argued Bolsonaro’s acute gut ailments – the result of a near-fatal stabbing during the 2018 presidential political campaign – signified it would be hazardous to keep the one-time head of state there. “His [health] situation is extremely serious. Backers React

He is not the sole person voicing opinions prior to the ex-leader's predicted incarceration.

Writing in a leading daily, a different supporter, the former communications minister Fábio Wajngarten, deplored the “severe” conclusion to Bolsonaro’s “flawless” political career and asserted Brazil was about to experience “the largest political injustice in its past”.

“It is an unfairness that eats away the spirits of countless of Brazilians,” Wajngarten wrote.

Divided General Response

This could be accurate given the substantial backing Bolsonaro holds on the right-wing. However his predicted imprisonment has also warmed the hearts of many other people who think he ought to be incarcerated for planning to prevent the elected leader from taking power – and even plotting to have him murdered.
