The Fifth Toy Story Film Trailer Pits The Beloved Duo Versus a Digital Device
Exactly 30 anniversary after the first Toy Story movie debuted, launching Pixar as a major film company and introducing viewers to beloved characters like the cowboy doll (the actor) and the space ranger (the voice talent), who are now household names.
In 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 appeared recently, offering a brief look into the storyline but leaving viewers curious how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.
The Latest Addition: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Frightens the Toys
The preview reveals Bonnie — who received the toy collection when he left for college — receiving a latest toy, one that alarms the familiar toy group. Bonnie acquires her first tablet computer, and she is thrilled about it.
Presumably, the frog-shaped tablet will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. However, the characters seem to view it as a danger intending to supplant them, which it likely will.
Woody's Return: Mysteries from Toy Story 4
One thing the teaser doesn't touch on is why the sheriff is back with his companions in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 depicted him set off on a new adventure with the shepherdess (the actress), traveling with a carnival and helping prize toys find good homes.
Certainly, Pixar will explain the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him show up in Bonnie's room unexpectedly is a little strange, however. It also raises questions whether his partner will have returned with him. And what about the stuntman toy (the star)?
Connections from the Previous Film
At the very least, some aspects are continuing from the prior film. The final act Woody did before setting off for his new life was pass his sheriff badge to Jessie (the voice actor), leaving her as the leader of the toy domain. The clip shows the badge attached to her shirt.
It is hoped she is still the key figure among the group.
Toy Story 5 debuts on the scheduled date.
