The New Animated Series' Introductory Sequence Chose the Incorrect Critical Role Track
This latest animated series, the most recent animated series by the beloved role-playing group, revealed a new introductory sequence. It features our favorite cast of misfits, outcasts, and criminals fighting hard and making their mark, while teasing at multiple heart-wrenching backstories for characters including the voice actor's wizard Caleb, and Travis Willingham's orc warlock, the character Fjord.
All in all, the opening looks amazing. However, I felt that something was missing in the song choice.
The intro employs "Welcome to the Continent", an exceptional composition composed by producer and singer Colm McGuinness. It's a track from the soundtrack album of the same name, the second release released by Critical Role Productions LLC's music division Scanlan Shorthalt Music. It's a great sentimental choice, and I believe that fans of the second campaign will appreciate its presence.
Personally, The series' intro doesn't quite capture the excitement and excitement that accompanied the show's actual-play adventure. "It's Your Turn", composed by musician the artist, became an immediate hit for me when it was first revealed in 2015, and it only got better when co-founder the performer wrote words to the tune for the animated Campaign 2 opening in the later year.
Including singing from Ashley Johnson, another performer, Travis Willingham, as well as Riegel himself, the track was memorable and enjoyable. At the time, I hadn't even watched the follow-up series yet, but it was so infectious that I kept it on my device. It's a song that knows how to get you pumped before you start an episode of adventurous fun.
The show's opening with "Welcome to Wildemount" doesn't strike the right notes for me. It's a grand piece of music, but based on my understanding of this party, I can't help but feel that its mood is a little off.
Naturally, the creators has stated that the series will have some changes and differences from the actual-play campaign. An adjusted mood for its opening appears as among these.
This animated adventure will be released on the streaming service from November 19. For those eager before that, or want a head start to get to know the characters of Critical Role's Campaign 2, the original episodes are available on Spotify and YouTube.
