The Porcine Pardon: Hog Named Six Seven Granted Clemency by Miami Dade County Mayor.
It might not have been at the identical stature as pardoning Thanksgiving turkeys, but the county's top official experienced a ceremonial pardon event this week by ritually sparing the life of a pig named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.
“The swine has done no wrong. She is worthy of this pardon. No offenses are on her docket,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with obvious nods to the sheer volume of executive clemencies issued since the commencement of a current administration.
“Unless you count eating half a dozen apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “Let this swine have a lengthy and joyful existence without fear.”
The event, simultaneously observing and challenging the local cultural practice of feasting on pork during the holidays, was established to replicate the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.
The animal, provided by a first responder, was given its name from the current slang trend of young people yelling “six-seven” – originating from a hip-hop line – often seemingly at random. The trend became so ubiquitous that a major dictionary recently named “six-seven” its 2025 word of the year.
A New Life
Six Seven the pig is now scheduled to spend its days at a rural sanctuary “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the event’s official press release.
“This swine clemency has become a beloved tradition to kick off the end-of-year celebrations,” said Eric Castellanos, in a particularly upbeat message.
“It represents the character of Miami: vibrant, varied, and based in heritage that foster togetherness. Every time, we are honored to observe culture and compassion in a way only Miami can.”
Guests enjoyed a vegetarian menu of spinach croquetas and strong coffee as they toasted the pig's pardon.
