US Court Mandates Freedom of Abrego Garcia from Immigration Detention
A court has ruled the prompt discharge of Kilmar Abrego Garcia from detention by ICE, concluding his continued confinement is without lawful basis.
"Since Abrego Garcia's release after wrongful imprisonment in El Salvador, he has been taken back into custody, again without lawful authority," the judge stated in her order.
The case stems from a mistaken removal to El Salvador earlier this year, which US authorities later admitted was an mistake. Following his repatriation to the United States to face alien smuggling allegations, he was held in immigration detention.
In her order, the judge pointed out that the government lacks a valid removal order, which effectively blocks them from removing Mr. Abrego Garcia "at this time."
